Today, the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Public Service held a hearing on several late-filed bills involving public safety personnel and retirement matters. While these bills are moving later in the legislative calendar, we anticipate that many will continue to advance before the end of the year.
Among the bills heard today were:
- S.3201 / H.5597 — Legislation concerning Special Police Officers in the Town of Acushnet.
- H.5606 — Legislation concerning Special Police Officers in the City of Somerville.
- H.5642 — Legislation regarding the disability retirement of West Springfield Police Officer Michael Chapdelaine.
- H.5565 — Legislation allowing Lawrence Police Officer Abel Cano Jr. to purchase creditable service.
The Massachusetts Police Association will continue to closely monitor activity on Beacon Hill and advocate on matters affecting our members, public safety professionals, and their families.
As these and other bills move through the legislative process, we will keep our members informed of meaningful developments.
