MPA denouces Comments of Sen. Markey

On September 14, 2020, Senator Ed Markey tweeted “Portland police routinely attack peaceful protestors with brute force. We must disarm these officers, and every other police department in America, of weapons of war, and enact a nationwide ban on tear gas, rubber and plastic bullets, and bean bag rounds.” The Massachusetts Police Association denounces these comments and President Guido of behalf of the MPA voiced his concerns in a rebuttal to Senator Markey.

Senator Markey,

It is hard to fathom that a United States Senator could make such an outrageous statement that is non-factual and a slap in the face to the men and women of law enforcement who put their lives on the line everyday protecting their communities.

The police do not attack peaceful protesters and have been battling disrespectful out right lawless rioters nightly in Portland and throughout the country.

Senator Markey you should be ashamed of yourself. It is elected officials like you that have fueled this outrageous behavior.

There is a difference between peaceful protesting and what is actually taking place in Portland, which could be considered domestic terrorism in our own country.

I personally have been a supporter of yours for your entire career in Congress.  I can no longer support you, and frankly you should step down, as you are out of touch with the American people.

God Bless America,

James R Guido
