Jerry McDermott for Norfolk County Sheriff

Attention Norfolk County Members:

The MPA has endorsed the candidacy of Norfolk County Sheriff Jerry McDermott.

Sheriff McDermott is running to complete the unexpired term of former Sheriff Mike Bellotti.

Jerry is a single dad, raising two daughters in Westwood.

He is a graduate of UMass Boston, is trained by the National Sheriffs Institute and is a graduate of the FBI-LEEDA program, where he received the Trilogy Award. Sheriff McDermott was the first Sheriff in the Commonwealth to implement additional pay for officers during the COVID crisis.

Jerry comes from a proud union family. He has been a vocal supporter for pay parity, and qualified immunity. He went against outside pressures to proudly display the Thin Blue Line flag prominently on the grounds of the Sheriff’s Office.

Jerry’s professional experience includes serving as chief of staff with the State’s Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM), community relations with Eversource Energy, state director for the Office of U.S. Senator Scott P. Brown, and executive director of South Shore Habitat for Humanity.

Sheriff McDermott has also served as an elected member of the Boston City Council and as Co-Chair of the Allston-Brighton Substance Abuse Task Force, giving him insight into the opioid crisis and the need for comprehensive treatment, including addressing mental health issues.

Jerry has created and maintained partnerships with local law enforcement in many ways, from sending out DTAGF with sanitizer guns to local departments during the pandemic, to helping with crowd control, and collaborating with METROLEC on a range of cases.
