On October 18th, the House overwhelming supported their version of the gun bill. Ten democrats joined the entire Republican caucus in voting against the bill. The one bright spot is an amendment filed by Representative Cusack of Braintree that exempted off duty officers from section 123 was one of four that were accepted. The amendment, which was accepted unanimously, allows off duty officers to carry in restricted areas. The caveat is that it must be their duty weapon. Although we asked for a total exemption, this at least does not require off duty officers disarm before entering these areas. We will continue to interact with the Senate as they craft their version in hope of securing a total exemption. We have included the official vote tally.
